Jennifer Smith Starts As New District League Coordinator
Jennifer Smith of Indianola is the new District League Coordinator, replacing Jan Koder who recently retired. Originally from Des Moines, Smith played at Roosevelt High School and later for Simpson College. She currently works for the World Team Tennis national office and is the tournament director for all of the sectional and national tournaments for the adult leagues. She is excited to take on this additional role for USTA Iowa.
“My goal is to increase participation in the number of players/teams and also to add new leagues,” she said.
Smith has been playing USTA for ten years and has captained since 2016. In 2018 she was on a mixed 40 plus 8.0 team that won Nationals. Last year she qualified and participated on two teams in Nationals (40 plus 8.0 mixed and 40 plus 3.5 women).
“I enjoy staying active and having the opportunity to compete at my age,” she said. “I’ve enjoyed the friendships I’ve made over the years.”
She enjoys doubles, singles and mixed but prefers singles the most as she likes being in control of the outcome of the match.
