USTA Iowa National Tennis Month festivities include tournaments, Red Ball Tennis
May was National Tennis Month, a monthlong celebration that featured a variety of opportunities for individuals of all ages and abilities to play the world’s healthiest sport. Within USTA Iowa, several fun-filled events were held as part of National Tennis Month.
The month of May kicked off with the Level 6 Spring Junior Open tournament at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, with nearly 30 juniors participating.
Additional National Tennis Month events included Swing into Summer Tennis in Norwalk and a Weed Park Tennis Kickoff event in Muscatine. The event at Weed Park included a T-shirt giveaway, tennis drills, instruction, open play and Red Ball Tennis as part of the first evening of the Adult (15+) Tuesday Night Tennis League.
On May 28, a check presentation was held for tennis courts in Atlantic, which were resurfaced. USTA National contributed $31,000 to the resurfacing project, while USTA Missouri Valley chipped in $2,500 in Tennis Venue Services grant funding.
National Tennis Month wrapped up with the Level 4 Open: USTA Missouri Valley 55+ NTRP & Open adult tournament at Life Time in Urbandale. Men’s singles and women’s singles/doubles divisions were held with 27 players registered to participate.
