USTA Iowa L7 Junior Tournament Initiative
To encourage more organizations to host L7 junior tournaments, USTA Iowa is offering cash incentives to local tennis organizations. Local facilities who host L7 junior tournaments will be eligible for cash prizes including: $800 for the first raffle ticket drawn, and $600 for the second ticket drawn. Each winning organization will also receive a limited edition L7 Champion t-shirt they can present to their tournament director.
Features of an official L7 junior tournament*
- Type: Low-level intermediate, open
- Duration: Up to one day
- Ball color: 12s – green*, 14s-18s – yellow
- *The USTA section will determine if a green or yellow ball will be used for play.
- Age divisions: Boys/girls 12s-18s
- Events offered: Singles, doubles, or both
Draw Format Options*
- Round robin
- Round robin with a playoff
- Compass draw
- Team format
Scoring Format Options
- Short set (first to 4 games)
- Single set (first to 6 games)
- Best 2 out of 3 short sets (7-point tiebreak in lieu of third set)
- Match tiebreak (first to 10 points)
- Doubles only
Iowa District Requirements*
- District raffle is only open to organizations (i.e. club, CTA, schools, parks & rec.) to host.
- Host organizations must run the official L7 junior tournament and follow requirements.
- Host cannot reduce a current L6 down to a L7 tournament (must be a new tournament).
- Sanction fee is reduced to $18.50 by the district for each L7 tournament hosted.
- L7 must have a minimum of 10 players to qualify for the district raffle.
- Host will receive one (1) raffle entry for each L7 they host, register and complete.
- Host is limited to running up to a total of eight (8) L7 tournaments in 2022.
- All L7 tournaments must be completed by Oct. 1, 2022 to qualify for the raffle.
- L7 raffle drawing will take place at the USTA Iowa Fall Meeting on Oct. 23, 2022.
