Flexible play offerings highlight USTA Kansas league expansion
Spring is just around the corner, which means players are likely itching for more opportunities to hit the courts. If individuals have some free time during the day, why not fill it with tennis?
Daytime USTA Kansas leagues are currently being planned, with the first of those kicking off in Wichita in late April.
This combo-rating, flex-format league will be the first of its kind in USTA Kansas. Dylan Jones, district league coordinator, hopes the new offering is a hit with players.
“We’re hoping that if this pilot league goes well, we can expand it across the state,” he said.
Other daytime tennis opportunities are in the works as well. Jones shared that team-style tournaments, such as Battle of the Clubs and a singles tri-level tournament, will be coming later this year.
“Those two are going to be a little bit later in our calendar year, but we’re still really excited about doing it,” Jones said.
In addition to these options, USTA Flex Leagues are taking place in Wichita throughout the year. Flex Leagues allow players to schedule matches when it best suits them and their schedule.
The Wichita spring Flex League runs March 16 to May 10. The summer option is June 8 to Aug. 16, and the fall campaign is Sept. 14 to Nov. 8. Each season offers men’s and women’s singles round-robin play.
