Amy Mathew Named Interim Adult League Coordinator

Josh Sellmeyer | July 26, 2022

Amy Mathew — who has recently served on the USTA Missouri Board of Directors and works as district league coordinator for USTA Kansas — has been named interim adult league coordinator for USTA Missouri, effective August 1.

Mathew’s expertise running sectional-level events will be a big boost to USTA Missouri. The district is prepping to host the first-ever 55 & Over mixed sectional in USTA Missouri Valley history this November at Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield.

“Things are growing, things are building, and here is someone who is going to help us continue that momentum,” said Leslie Echols, USTA Missouri executive director. “She’s so enthusiastic. She’s awesome. She has tons of energy. She always says, ‘I would do anything to help the Missouri district.’ She is such a valuable resource to us. We’re really fortunate to have her.”

Mathew lives within the USTA Missouri border. Her familiarity with the district’s inner workings made her a “perfect fit” for the role, Echols said. She will serve in this capacity through the 55+ mixed sectional. At that point, the board of directors will reevaluate and determine the best next steps for Mathew and the district.

Mathew will also assist in mentoring local league coordinators. Echols held the adult league coordinator post for a year-plus before becoming executive director in early May. Echols is localizing that adult league coordinator position, which provides more opportunities for individuals to aid in the district’s ongoing growth.

“We’re going to try out this different structure of potentially having multiple league coordinators throughout the district helping in their own local areas,” Echols said. “Because of Amy’s background, she is in great position to help me train those coordinators and have more people get involved.”
