At the Class A State Tournament at the Koch Family Tennis Center in Omaha, Lincoln East freshman Belinda Rademacher followed in her older sister Bianca’s footsteps and claimed the title for #1 singles as she beat senior Camilla Ibrahimova 6-4, 6-2, helping the Spartans win the team title as well.

“I wasn’t expecting to win the state title this year so it was a fun surprise,” Rademacher said. “I worked at staying calm and being positive. I also knew I would have great support whether I won or lost.”

Meanwhile, another freshman, Lincoln Southeast’s Corinne Barber, beat Omaha Marian junior Cecelia Regan to claim the #2 singles title. Barber never lost a match during her freshman season.

At #1 doubles, Lincoln Southwest seniors Grace Bartolome and Ella Dean beat Lincoln East’s Gibsen Chapman and Kristina Le 7-5, 6-2. At #2 doubles, Omaha Marian’s freshman duo of Torrrey McManus and Jada Vosik had a tight match with Lincoln Southwest’s Parker Brown and Sophia Heinrich, winning 6-7, 6-3, 7-5.

Over at the Class B tournament at the Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln, Elkhorn North earned the team title as well as both #1 and #2 doubles titles, a successful finish to their season after finishing 12th last year.

“It was a fairytale ending to a great season,” said Elkhorn North Coach Lance Kush. “To see them work hard, enjoy the game of tennis, come together as a team, and achieve what they did was so special. It took a true team effort to win the Class B State Championship. The girls came up huge in the close matches and big moments.”

Elkhorn North’s #1 doubles team of sophomores Camryn Jacobsmeier and Haylee Wolf beat Lincoln Christian seniors Jenna Wiltfong and Alyssa Gove 6-3, 6-3. Elkhorn North’s #2 doubles team Allie Tabaka and Grace Jesske dug deep to beat Grand Island Central Catholic’s Trystin Hedman and Gracie Woods 4-6, 6-3, 6-2.

At #1 singles, Omaha Duchesne’s Ina Satpathy defeated Elkhorn freshman Kira Ozyomaya in the final 6-0, 6-0. Satpathy never lost a game during the state tournament. At #2 singles freshman Tanya Bachu with Brownell-Talbot/Concordia beat Elkhorn North’s Sophia Jones  6-1, 6-3.

“The reason I got into coaching is for days like this,” Kush added. “The girls were so happy after winning the championship! They were not only happy for what they accomplished individually, but also for their teammates. It was an incredible day with a special group of girls. Tennis is such a wonderful sport!”
