St. Louis Well-Represented in USTA Missouri Valley Awards

USTA Missouri Valley recently announced its list of 2022 award recipients, and USTA St. Louis had terrific representation.


All USTA Missouri Valley award winners will be formally recognized at the 2022 Annual Conference and Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Celebration. This event takes place December 2-3 at the Olathe Conference Center in Olathe, Kansas. To learn more about the conference and to register to attend, click here.


Longtime USTA St. Louis Executive Director Mary Vassar was chosen for the USTA Missouri Valley Distinguished Service Award. To read a feature article on Vassar as she prepped for retirement, click here.


The historic Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Forest Park was picked as Facility of the Year. USTA St. Louis became operating manager of Dwight Davis in March 2021.

Dave Lipe, who coaches the Edwardsville High School boys’ and girls’ tennis teams, was named High School Coach of the Year. Lipe also runs the Edwardsville Futures USTA Pro Circuit event — the St. Louis area’s lone professional tennis tournament. Mike Reichman was named USTA Missouri Valley’s Outstanding Official. Reichman and all officials across the country are being recognized for their diligence as part of USTA National’s Officials Appreciation Week, which takes place November 13-19.


The Gross/Stauffer family was selected as Tennis Family of the Year. Donna Stauffer — who has served in a variety of roles for USTA since 1987 — has worked as a USTA St. Louis roving umpire for the last three and a half years and is treasurer of SLATO (St. Louis Association of Tennis Officials). Emily Cimarolli was chosen for the award of USTA Junior Team Tennis Organizer. In addition to her strong JTT efforts, Cimarolli is a critical contributor at the Edwardsville Futures event. To read more about that, click here.


In the category of Junior Sportsmanship winners, USTA St. Louis fared well. Kharis Bedenbaugh (Girls’ 10s), Adelyn Gross (Girls’ 14s) and Rachel Li (Girls’ 18s) captured awards on the girls’ side. For the boys, Pranav Madamanchi (Boys’ 12s), Shaan Patel (Boys’ 14s), Jasper Schmidt (Boys’ 16s) and Danny Radke (Boys’ 18s) collected hardware.
