Sportsmanship recognized

at JTT 14U Nationals

Sportsmanship and team spirit were on full display at the 2019 14U Junior Team Tennis National Championships.
 

Four individuals and one team were recognized for showcasing the ideals of the team competition at the McFarlin Tennis Center in San Antonio, Texas.
 

The awards were presented to one boy and one girl from each of the intermediate and advanced divisions who received the most votes from his or her opponents throughout the tournament.
 

In the intermediate category, Gabriel Cayere from the Torrimar team from Guaynabo, P.R, (USTA Caribbean section) and Veronica Lynn from the Northwood Thunder team from Bethlehem, Pa. (USTA Middle States section) took home the awards.
 

In the advanced division, Collin Beduhn representing the Yetis team from St. Louis Park, Minn. (USTA Northern section) and Nia Macay from Stonegate Tennis Academy based out of Davis, Calif. ADVERTISEMENT (USTA Northern California section) took home the accolades.
 

In addition, MatchPoint Tennis from Goshen, N.Y., and representing the USTA Eastern section earned the team award given to the squad that displayed the best team spirit and sportsmanship throughout the event.
 

The MatchPoint Tennis (pictured above) team is coached by Ari Roberts and features team members Aidan Bart, Dillon Beckles, Maeve Cassidy, Lucas Castillo-Sanchez, Braeden Gelletich, Alexandra Krasinska and Norah Staunton.
 

Awards were also handed out for the best team banners, created by each team and displayed during the opening ceremonies.
 

Madrackets from the USTA New England section won the intermediate award while Texas Select from USTA Texas took home the advanced honors.
 

Established in 1991, USTA Junior Team Tennis provides youth with all of the health and social benefits of tennis in a coed, fun and competitive team environment, all while allowing participants to compete with and against individuals of similar ages and skill levels.
