Caribbean Takes First Place at  18 & Over 2.5W

The USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Fla., was abuzz with excitement on Sunday as the Caribbean section women's team from Guaynabo, P.R. came out on top and took home the USTA League 18 & Over 2.5 Women’s National Championship title. 

 

The Caribbean women's team defeated a team from Bellevue, Wash., 2-1, in the marquee match to take home the crown. Earlier in the day, Caribbean managed a win against a team from South Bend, Ind., 2-1, securing its spot in the final. 

 

The team is captained by Jaidys Rossy and Myra Velez and features Gloria Perez, Yolanda Martinez Delgado, Lara Caride, Marina Cardona and Linda Irizarry.  

 

 

The women’s team from Bellevue, Wash., representing the USTA Pacific Northwest Section, finished in second place. The Wash. women punched their ticket to the finals by defeating a team from Weston, Conn., 2-1, in the semifinal match.  

 

Coached by Jason Chapman and playing out of the Robinswood Tennis Center, the Pacific Northwest team features players Jun Liu, Jingjing Cai, Shannen Wyman, Elena Harnish, Fan Xiang, Jennifer Israel and Jenny Sia.
