NTRP Championships Ready to Crown Winners
650 tennis players from across the United States will be battling it out on the court during the month of April to take the title at the inaugural NTRP National Championships.
The NTRP National Championships is a new national adult tournament that leverages the NTRP rating system as a means to create level-based individual competition at the 18 & Over and 50 & Over age groups.
Players were nominated from each of the 17 USTA sections, all meeting the qualifications of being a current USTA member and having participated in at least one NTRP tournament within the last 12 months.
Besides the two age groups, play will be divided by sex and NTRP ratings in the 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 divisions.
Winners will be crowned for the first time based on short sets, which is a no advantage set to four games, instead of the usual six game set with advantage scoring.
Each participant will play at least six matches over the course of three days, and as the tournament progresses, will be facing opponents of increasingly closer skill-level to them.
"We are very excited about the inaugural NTRP National Championships,” said USTA Manager of Adult and Senior Competition, Michael Hughes. “We will find out who is the best 3.5, 4.0 and 4.5 player in the country, and crown a true national champion.”
Play kicks off on Friday, April 6 for the 18 & Over division at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz.
The 50 & Over competition will be held at the Academia Sanchez Casal in Naples, Fla. From April 20-22.
