Intermountain and Florida Win 18 & Over 3.5
Sunday saw the conclusion of the USTA League National 18 & Over 3.5 Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., with the Intermountain section men's team from Salt Lake City, and the Florida section women's team from Orlando, Fla., come out on top.
The Florida women's team from Orlando, Fla., took home the title after an incredible victory against a team from Guaynabo, P.R., 4-1. The Florida team secured its spot in the final after defeating a team from South Bend., Ind., 4-1, in the semifinals.
The Florida team is captained Madelyn Escudero and features Shanel Malapit, Misa Kawata, Jennifer Carter, Wendy Sutch, Sarah Davey, Ann Jones, Shelly Bauer, Isabelle Welsh, Rachel Halscott, Kristina Godiksen and Kathleen Cotton, and plays at Red Bug Park in Casselberry, Fla.
The Intermountain men's team defeated a team from San Jose, 4-1, to take home the crown. Earlier in the day, the Salt Lake City men managed a win against a Florida section team, 3-2, securing its spot in the final.
The team is captained by Douglas Fowkes and features: Ben Rand, Paul Lewis, Akio Tsujino, Bradley Gessell, Legend Lee Chip Sao, Derek Elison, Todd Castagna, Cameron Willes, Boo Bendinger, Adam Peterson, Joseph Venoza, Evan Hughes and Zachery Siddoway and plays at Golds Gym.
