Midwest Men, Southern Women Prevail 18 & Over 4.5
Sunday saw the conclusion of the USTA League National 18 & Over 4.5 Championships at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla., with the Midwest section men's team from Medina, Ohio, and the Southern section women's team from Raleigh, N.C., come out on top.
The Southern women's team from Raleigh, N.C., took home the title after a thrilling victory against a team from Milwaukee, representing the Midwest section, 3-2. The Southern team secured its spot in the final after defeating a team from Woburn, Mass., 3-2, in the semifinals.
The Southern team is captained by Ashley Rogers and features Karen Bernier, Alison Patterson, Hannah Lebowitz, Erin Piechocinski, Mary-Katherine Walston, Michelle Bass, Macy Fisher, Hartley Watts and Tiffany Selvaggio, and plays at the Millbrook Tennis Center.
The Midwest men's team defeated a team from San Antonio, representing the Texas section, 3-2, to take home the crown. Earlier in the day, the Medina, Ohio men managed a win against a team from Irvine, Calif., 3-2, securing its spot in the final.
The team is captained by Adam Perkins and features Timothy Perdion, Jason Trapp, Dean Morse, Kevin Dong, Aaron Yeh, Ben Lilly, Austin Hanna, Thomas Barth, Thomas Hodgkiss-Lilly and Will Young, and plays at the Highland High School.
