The American players representing the United States at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Masters World Team Championships, held in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., advanced to five of the six finals on home soil.

The Alice Marble Cup (Women’s 60+) and Althea Gibson Cup (Women’s 70+) teams stood atop the podium in the end, while the Britannia Cup (Men’s 65+), Jack Crawford Cup (Men’s 70+) and Kitty Godfree Cup (Women’s 65+) teams finished as the runners-up.

The formidable duo of Vicki Buholz (Dallas) and Jenny Klitch (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) won both their singles matches against Italy in the final of the Alice Marble Cup, helping USA to go one step further than in 2024. Meanwhile, Althea Gibson Cup teammates Carolyn Nichols (Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.) and Tina Karwasky (Glendale, Calif.) won both their singles matches, leading the Americans to a clean sweep victory against France in the Althea Gibson Cup final.

The tournament is the masters equivalent of the Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup competitions, where top American tennis players represent their country in the 60+, 65+ and 70+ age groups.

American athletes continue to demonstrate the longevity of playing tennis, bringing home multiple individual championships in addition to team titles.

In the women’s 60+ doubles event, San Diego’s Christina Kaus teamed with Sweden’s Stina Mosvold to win the title after the American team of Mary Michelle De Palmer Williams and Susan Love retired when trailing 6-3, 4-3 in the match. The team of Chuck Kuhle (Decatur, Ill.) and Mark Vines (Naples, Fla.) defeated Australia’s Michael Ford and New Zealand’s Peter Hampton, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 to win the men’s doubles 65+ doubles title. The women’s 65+ singles saw Susan Wright (Orlando, Fla.) defeat Great Britain’s Christine French, 6-3, 6-1.

Daniel Waldman (Washington, D.C.) took home both the singles and doubles titles in the men’s 70+ division, defeating Great Britain’s Paul French, 7-6(2), 6-2 in the singles final. He teamed up with Richard Meyer (New York, N.Y.) for doubles, beating the Australian team of Stephen Dance and Wayne Pascoe, 6-2, 6-4. Carolyn Nichols followed in Waldman’s footsteps, winning both the women’s 70+ singles and doubles titles. She defeated compatriot Tina Karwasky, 6-0, 7-6(3) in singles before teaming up with Bunnie Jackson (Bluffton, S.C.) in doubles to beat the team of Pauline Fischer (Great Britain) and Sally Van Rensburg (Australia), 6-1, 6-4.
