SoCal Men, PNW Women Take Titles at 40 & Over 4.5+
Vegas was the city of win on Sunday, as the Southern California men’s team and the Pacific Northwest women’s team were crowned champions at the 2018 USTA League Adult 40 & Over 4.5+ National Championship at the Darling Tennis Center.
The Pacific Northwest section women’s team, which is based at Club Green Meadows in Portland, Wash., began the day by edging a tough Northern California Section team from the San Francisco Bay area, 3-2 in the semifinals to move into the championship.
In the final match, the women from the PNW edged out a team from Raleigh, N.C., to take home the title, 3-2, in the marquee match.
The team is captained by Monika Kowalewski and Tracey Riddle and features Jane Paulson, Lisa Grant, Kristin Fudalla, Tara Henderson, Amanda Solomon, Jamie Berg, Bronwen Hager, Carianne Nieuwstraten and team mom Disa Solomon.
The Socal men’s team from Pasadena, Calif., opened the day by scoring a narrow 3-2 semifinal victory over the Eastern section team from Oceanside, N.Y., to advance to the semifinals.
In a thrilling championship match, the men’s team from SoCal, which played its USTA League matches at Live Oaks Tennis Associaton, pulled out an exciting 3-2 decision over their fellow statesman from the San Francisco Bay area to secure the title.
The team is captained by Kenny Pedroza and features Michael Kogan, Kevin Frazier, Michael Ortiz, Paul Scholtz, Leonard Lee, Fernando Hernandez, Dana Treister, Roman Sydorak, Chun Ming Huang, Blair Slattery, Gabriel Fitch, Reid Slattery, Peter Gertmenian, Arman Davtyan, Adrian Pina and Paul Salvador.
