Tennis Channel/USTA College Tennis Top 25: April 6, 2022

Pat Mitsch | April 06, 2022

The North Carolina Tar Heels emerged from this weekend ranked No. 1—in women's tennis, of course.

Go figure, The Triangle was also in the college tennis spotlight this weekend, with the highly ranked North Carolina, NC State and Duke women's teams all waging big, in-state matches in Raleigh, with close results all around. The Blue Devils scored a 4-3 upset over the Wolfpack on Friday, followed by the Tar Heels also holding on for a 4-3 win over NC State on Sunday. As such, UNC retains its No. 1 ranking, Duke moves up to No. 8 and NC State holds onto its spot at No. 3, though only by one ranking point over No. 4 Texas and two points over No. 5 Texas A&M.

South Carolina taking Kentucky's place at No. 10 was the only movement in the men's Top 10 this week. Arizona's weekend home sweep of Stanford and Cal was enough to get the Wildcats up into the Top 15 and potentially challenge No. 13 USC as the top-ranked men's program in the Pac-12.

Each team's point total, specified below, is the sum of its ranking points from the USTA's panel of voters (listed below). Each voter ranked 25 teams from Nos. 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last-place team receiving one. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot was removed. First-place votes were not tallied. This week's poll includes 14 voters, making the maximum number of points available 300.

The 2022 voting panel includes votes from the following representatives: Casey Angle (former Intercollegiate Tennis Association Director of Championships); Virgil Christian (former USTA director of college tennis); Richard Croome (former journalist); Sonny Dearth (Daily Press; Newport News, Va.); Judy Dixon (former UMass women’s head coach); Alex Gruskin (Cracked Racquets); Chris Halioris / Matt Stachowiak (Cracked Racquets); J. Webb Horton (Former Florida Gulf Coast men's head coach); Granger Huntress (Texas College Tennis); Andy Katz (NCAA.com); Bobby Knight (College Tennis Today); Brandon Moglen (Tennis Channel); Lisa Stone (Parenting Aces); Caitlin Thompson (Racquet); Scott Treibly (USTA contractor); Laura Vallverdu (Between Lines); Dallas Oliver/Shannon Wrege (Tennis Recruiting Network).
