USTA College Tennis Top 25: April 5, 2017

April 05, 2017

A major shakeup at the top of the men's poll highlights this week's USTA College Tennis Top 25, as Wake Forest takes over the No. 1 spot from Virginia after defeating the Cavaliers, 5-2, in a rematch of last season's ACC championship match.

The two teams were playing in the final College MatchDay of the year at the Wake Forest Tennis Complex, with 1,106 people in attendance, as the Demon Deacons picked up their first victory over Virginia at home since April 14, 1995.

Also on the men's side, TCU climbed 10 spots in the poll from No. 16 to No. 6 after a big week highlighted by wins over Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. Oregon also joins the rankings for the first time this year at No. 25.

In the women's poll, North Carolina dropped two spots to No. 4 after falling to Georgia Tech, 4-3, on Saturday, putting an end to the Tar Heels' 50-match home winning streak. Ohio State moves up to No. 2 behind No. 1 Florida, which has held the top spot since the USTA College Top 25 poll began on Feb. 8. Florida International also enters the poll for the first time this season at No. 24.

Each team's point total is the sum of its ranking points from the USTA's panel of eight voters (listed below). Each voter ranked 25 teams from Nos. 1 to 25, with the first-place team receiving 25 points and the last-place team receiving one. For control, the highest and lowest outlying ranking for each team on the ballot were removed. Therefore, the maximum number of points a team can receive is 150. First-place votes were not tallied.
