NETEF Funds Three Major Programs in 2024

New England Tennis and Education Foundation Supports Thriving Community Programs Through Grants $25,000 in total supported inclusive initiatives

WESTBOROUGH, MA- The New England Tennis & Education Foundation is proud to announce its continued support of enriching programs that strengthen our community. This year, the foundation has awarded grants to organizations and programs making a significant impact in education and accessible sports.

"We believe tennis is more than a game, it’s a powerful tool for personal growth and community connection. Our foundation is committed to investing in programs that create lasting positive change and empower individuals and communities to reach their full potential,” said Mary McKernan, President of the New England Tennis & Education Foundation.

2024 Foundation support:

Friends of Newton Tennis: A $10,000 grant (the second installment of a three-year commitment) supported the fourth annual Garden City Singles and Doubles Championships. This tournament, one of the largest community tennis events in New England, drew 253 participants of all ages and skill levels. The event not only fosters a love for tennis but also raises funds to improve local public tennis courts.

All Comers Wheelchair Tennis Camp: A $10,000 grant (the first of a two-year commitment) enabled this impactful camp to provide tennis instruction and adaptive sports opportunities for individuals who use a wheelchair for sports participation. The three-day camp, featuring nine athletes and six dedicated coaches, was a resounding success. One junior camper, inspired by the experience, joined her high school tennis team and has already won her first three matches!

Calculus Project: A $5,000 grant (the second installment of a three-year commitment) was awarded to the Newton (MA) Public Schools to support the Calculus Project in memory of Dr. Isador Singer, a world-renowned mathematician and avid tennis player who resided in Newton. The Calculus Project is a math equity initiative that uses research-supported strategies to increase the diversity in honors and advanced-level math classes to reflect the rich diversity that exists in Newton's High Schools. This project services 200 students a year.
