USTA NorCal Tournament Player Recognition Award

Not every tennis player who enters a USTA NorCal tournament is going to win his/her event. As you all know there can be only one winner in singles and 2 winners in doubles in any event played. If fact, a player may enter many tournaments and never come up a winner. To thank these players for their participation, dedication and the many hours spent at our sanctioned tournaments, and, to encourage these players to continue playing in our Adult Tournaments, The NorCal Adult Tournament Committee presented a plan to recognize the players who had played in 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 tournaments as our way of recognizing the contribution these players make to the Northern California Section. This award is called the Player Recognition Award.

It is inaugural year, 2014, USTA NorCal recognized 6 players who achieved the 200 tournament participation requirement and 4 players who achieved the 300 Tournament participation requirement. These 10 players were presented with the Player Recognition Award jackets….navy blue for the 200 tournament participants and red for the 300 tournament participants at our Rewards Banquet held in 2014.

In 2015 only one player, Robert Gex, qualified to be recognized.  For the year of 2016 we recognized three players; Vanessa Bogenholm who competed in 200 tournaments and Joelle Miller and Rob Shafer who have competed in 400 tournaments.  For 2017 recognized Henry Soong who competed in 200 tournaments.  For 2018 we are recognizing Dave Young with the special Player Recognition Award.   Dave Young, who competed in 303 tournaments will be presented with a red jacket.   Our heartiest congratulations to him on this very great accomplishment.

USTA Northern California Player of the Year Criteria

The Adult Senior, Open, NTRP and Family Player of the Year is a player who has shown good sportsmanship, is in good standing with USTA NorCal, has performed at a consistently high level throughout the tournament year, and demonstrated outstanding dedication to tournament play.

At the conclusion of the Grand Prix Points Race, the Player of the Year is the player or team who amassed the most ranking points during the Grand Prix season.
