2027 League Championship Changes
After reviewing player feedback and survey results, we've made changes designed to simplify the championship pathway, reduce travel and expenses, and create an even more exciting championship experience.
What's Changing?
One team per local area will advance directly to Section Championships and will not play in a District Championship.
Beginning with the 2027 season, any necessary post-local season playoffs will be built into the end of the local season in a single-elimination format to determine the representative team at the USTA New England Section Championships
As a result, District Championships for Mixed 18 & Over 7.0 & 8.0, Adult 18 & Over and Adult 40 & Over will no longer be held.
Why We're Making This Change
These updates were developed with player feedback in mind and offer several benefits:
- Less travel and fewer expenses by eliminating a separate District Championship event
- A more exclusive and competitive Section Championship experience
- Earlier planning opportunities, as Section Championship schedules will be able to be released months in advance
- A simpler and more streamlined postseason pathway
Please note that these changes will not take effect until the 2027 Championship Year, so there will be no impact on the upcoming 2026 summer championships.
More details regarding local area playoffs to come soon.
