Junior Sanctioned Events
Sanctioned Events
The structure of USTA Junior Tournaments utilizes seven levels of events, ranging from Level 7 (Intermediate) to Level 1 (National Championships) and a universal ranking system that distributes points consistently across the country.
USTA Colorado provides competitive junior players with an exciting pathway that includes sectional, regional, and national tournaments. Track your ranking among peers in Colorado, the Intermountain Section, and across the nation.
Intermediate Events
Level 7 and level 6 tournaments are the suggested levels for players ages 11+ who are just starting out playing tournaments.
There are different philosophies for advancing through competition, but a universal principle is that a player should only advance to the next level if they are consistently winning more matches than they are losing.
USTA Level 7 Tournaments are single-day events with a 2-match minimum/4-match maximum draw. These events are open to anyone, but are best for players ages 11 and older who are relatively new to the tournament experience. Some 12s division events offer Green Ball divisions for less experienced players.
If there is a limited draw, a bottom-up selection process will be used for this level, which means players with no ranking will be selected first.
USTA Level 6 Tournaments are 1-3 day events with a 2-match minimum/4-match maximum draw. These events are open to anyone. All age divisions will use the traditional yellow ball.
If there is a limited draw, a top-down selection process based on the National Standing List will be used.
Advanced Events
Once players have demonstrated success at the intermediate levels (Level 6 and Level 7), they are encouraged to seek out the next level of competition.
Colorado hosts USTA Level 5, Level 4 and Level 3 events. All draws are based on the National Standings List, which means not all lower-ranked players who register for these events are guaranteed to be selected.
USTA Level 5 Tournaments are 1-3 day events utilizing non-elimination formats. These events are open to anyone. If there is a limited draw, the selection process is based on ranking. A maximum of twelve (12) Level 5 events may be offered in the Intermountain Section.
USTA Level 4 Tournaments are 1-4 day events. Selection process is based on ranking. Only players residing in the Intermountain Section can play in Closed events.
USTA Level 3 Tournaments are 3+ day events. Selection process is based on ranking. Only players residing in the Intermountain Section can play in Closed events.
USTA Level 2 & Level 1 Tournaments are multi-day National events. Among these are Intersectional Team Competition (Level 2), and National Championships, Team Events and selected ITF events (Level 1). Selection process is based on ranking. There are no Level 2 or Level 1 events in the Intermountain Section.
