UNDERSTANDING THE 7 LEVELS OF 12 THROUGH 18 AND UNDER TOURNAMENT PLAY IN TEXAS
RULES, REGULATIONS, AND PROCEDURES BY LEVEL
Note 1 - The following information is USTA Texas Section specific and players should educate themselves when playing out of Section because Rules, Regulations, and Procedures can have some variations.
Note 2 - Open Tournaments allow Players from any Section to apply and if accepted participate in the Tournament. Closed Tournaments are restricted so that only Players that claim that Section as their Residency Section can participate.
Note 3 - Sections do not control which events are Open or Closed, this is controlled and regulated by USTA National.
LEVEL 7 OPEN - The USTA Texas Section has an unlimited inventory at this Level, number of offerings and distribution is to the Section’s discretion. Even though it is unlimited there are geographical restrictions in place for Tournaments that take place on the same day.
LEVEL 7 OPEN RULES, REGULATIONS, AND PROCEDURES IN THE USTA TEXAS SECTION
LEVEL 6 OPEN - The USTA Texas Section has an unlimited inventory at this Level, number of offerings and distribution is to the Section’s discretion. Even though it is unlimited there are geographical restrictions in place for Tournaments that take place on the same day.

LEVEL 5 OPEN - This Level is restricted and regulated by a quota assigned by USTA National. The USTA Texas Section has an annual quota of 34 tournaments.

LEVEL 5 CLOSED - This Level is restricted and regulated by a quota assigned by USTA National. The USTA Texas Section has an annual quota of 2 tournaments.

LEVEL 4 OPEN - This Level is restricted and regulated by a quota assigned by USTA National. The USTA Texas Section has an annual quota of 4 tournaments.

LEVEL 4 CLOSED - This Level is restricted and regulated by a quota assigned by USTA National. The USTA Texas Section has an annual quota of 3 tournaments. There is also an Intra-Sectional Team Tournament that counts as an additional Level 4 Closed Tournament.

LEVEL 3 OPEN - All Level 3 Open Tournaments, regardless of where they take place in the country, fall under USTA’s National Tournaments with no Section involvement. For Rules, Regulations, and Procedures for these Level of Tournaments look for the information in the Tournament’s Homepage and if not there contact the Tournament Director.
LEVEL 3 CLOSED - This Level is restricted and regulated by a quota assigned by USTA National. The USTA Texas Section has an annual quota of 2 tournaments (January and June).
LEVEL 3 CLOSED (January) RULES, REGULATIONS, AND PROCEDURES IN THE USTA TEXAS SECTION
LEVEL 3 CLOSED (June) RULES, REGULATIONS, AND PROCEDURES IN THE USTA TEXAS SECTION
LEVEL 2 OPEN - All Level 2 Open Tournaments, regardless of where they take place in the country, fall under USTA’s National Tournaments with no Section involvement. For Rules, Regulations, and Procedures for these Level of Tournaments look for the information in the Tournament’s Homepage and if not there contact the Tournament Director.
LEVEL 2 CLOSED - There is only 1 Tournament within this level in the year. USTA National requires that this Tournament is a Team Tournament involving 2 or more Sections, an Intersectional. The USTA Texas Section partnered with the USTA Southwest Section to run this Tournament. Yearly the 12 and 14 and under divisions take place in Arizona while the 16 and 18 and under divisions take place in Texas. By splitting the event this way (2 age groups in each Section) we are able to double up the amount of available spots in the Tournament which provides additional players, from each Section, an opportunity at Level 2 points. Information for this Tournament should be available online by the beginning of July.

Your enjoyment of the Tournaments is extremely important to us. Our objective is for the Tournament experience to be centralized on meeting the wants and needs of the majority of the Players and the majority of the Parents. If unfortunately, during the Tournament, there was a situation that was not handled or resolved to your satisfaction please let us know so we can make the necessary adjustments. We respectfully request that when sharing your experience with us that you take into consideration that there will be times in which when doing what is in the best interest of the majority there will be a minority that unfortunately, with justification, will get upset and feel it is not a fair process or situation. Please we kindly request that you accept our apologies in advance, for those few times. and that you, the player, your parents, and any guest that may have shown to support you that you feel respected, valued, and not taken for granted by our Staff at the USTA Texas Section and all the Tournament Directors and Officials that run and work the Tournaments throughout the year.
