USTA Nebraska Honors Award Winners
The Oak Hills Country Club in Omaha was the setting on Sunday, November 7, for the 39th Annual Nebraska District Tennis Awards. A number of awards were given out including three Hall of Fame Inductees. They include Bill Batchelor, Leo Cassidy and Ron Messbarger. Batchelor and Cassidy were both inducted posthumously. Messbarger was at the banquet to accept the award.
“Ron has been a player for more than 50 years,” said John Rademacher, nominator. “Ron has played a huge part in promoting tennis in Central Nebraska. He has always been willing to give his time to teach tennis to youths and adults either individually or in youth development programs.”
Award recipients were able to enjoy dinner, cocktail hour, and a silent auction. They also took home plaques to commemorate their awards
Additionally, USTA Missouri Valley will honor the 2021 Section Award Winners at the Annual Conference on December 4, 2021. The following winners will represent Nebraska at the awards ceremony:
Distinguished Service: Larry Newton, Omaha, NE.
Outstanding Contributor to Youth Tennis: Mike Saniuk, Omaha, NE.
Outstanding Contributor USTA League Tennis Program: Tammy Tegler, Waverly, NE.
Junior Sportsmanship: Girls 12s: Reeya Chundury, Omaha, NE.
