Let's Look at Summer Junior Tennis Opportunities Around Oklahoma

Junior Team Tennis looks a little different in 2022 and here is what you need to know as a coach, parent or player! 

 

There are now two opportunities for USTA Summer Junior Team Tennis in Oklahoma:

 

  • USTA Local Junior Team Tennis: June 1 – July 18
    • After the local season, top 2 teams from Tulsa/top 2 teams from OKC play in State Championships at LaFortune Park Tennis Center on July 26 & 27.
    • Tulsa matches will be played on Monday & Wednesdays 10U & 18U/ Tuesday & Thursdays 12U & 14U
    • OKC matches will be played on Tuesday & Thursdays

  • USTA NCJTT (National Championship Junior Team Tennis
    • Teams and players can participate in both Local Junior Team Tennis and (NCJTT) National Championships Junior Team Tennis

USTA Local Junior Team Tennis
  • What age divisions are offered in Local Junior Team Tennis? 

    • 10U Intermediate (Orange Ball)

    • 12U Intermediate (Green Ball)

    • 14U Intermediate (Yellow Ball)

    • 18U Intermediate (Yellow Ball) 

  • What is the team format for Local Junior Team Tennis?

    • 10U/12U/14U (GENDER NEUTRAL)

      • 2 Singles

      • 2 Doubles

    • 18U (Minimum 3 Boys/3 Girls)

      • Boy singles, Boy doubles, Girl singles, Girl doubles (Cannot double up, can only play singles OR doubles) 

      • Mixed doubles will ONLY BE PLAYED AT STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS

  • How do I get connected with a team in my community?

 

  • Are there advancement opportunities within Local Junior Team Tennis?
    • District playoffs (STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS) is the final event that can be offered within Local Junior Team Tennis. After the local season the top 2 teams from Tulsa and the top 2 teams from OKC play in State Championships at LaFortune Park Tennis Center on July 26 & 27.

 

USTA NCJTT (National Championship Junior Team Tennis)
 

USTA Missouri Valley is using a new event-based program to qualify teams to compete in our Sectional Championships 

 

  • What are these events called? 

    • USTA Missouri Valley Junior Team Tennis Qualifiers

  • What age divisions are offered in Qualifiers?

    • 14U Intermediate (Yellow Ball)

    • 14U Advanced (Yellow Ball)

    • 18U Intermediate (Yellow Ball)

    • 18U Advanced (Yellow Ball)

  • When will Qualifiers take place? 

    • Qualifiers will take place throughout the current championship year and prior to July 19, 2022

  • Where will Qualifiers take place? 

  • What is a district? 

  • How do I find more information on Qualifiers? 

    • The section will be promoting a calendar of all of the Qualifiers that will take place in 2022 by January 1, 2022.

    • You can reach out to your Section Junior Team Tennis Manager for more information about National Championships Junior Team Tennis

  • How do teams qualify? 

  • What is the team format? 

    • Minimum 3 boys and 3 girls 

  • What are the opportunities for advancement?

    • Teams qualify for the USTA Missouri Valley Section Championships by participating and placing in the top 2 of a Qualifier

    • Teams qualify for USTA National Championships by placing first in Section Championships. 

  • When is the Section Championships?

    • July 19, 2022

  • Where will the Section Championships take place? 

    • TBD (bid process)

  • When is the USTA National Championships? 

    • October 2022 (exact date TBD)

  • Where will the National Championships take place?

  • The USTA National Championships is the final event for the NCJTT pathway
