The new year started off on the right foot for two top American junior players, as 17-year-old Christian Alshon and 15-year-old Fiona Crawley captured singles titles Tuesday at the USTA National Winter Championships, the last of five USTA national junior tournaments on the 2017 schedule.

Alshon (pictured above), from Boca Raton, Fla., defeated 17-year-old Bradley Frye of Overland Park, Kan., 6-4, 4-6, 6-0, in the Boys' 18s final to earn his second Gold Ball of 2017. He also won the 18s doubles title at the USTA National Clay Court Championships in July.

Crawley, from San Antonio, followed up her run to the Orange Bowl 16s singles final last month by defeating 18-year-old Sophia Graver of Allenwood, N.J., 6-1, 7-5, for the Girls' 18s title.

Both Alshon and Crawley earned a wild card into a future USTA Pro Circuit event for their victories.

In 18s doubles action, Phillip Jordan, 17, from Spartanburg, S.C., and Andres Martin, 16, from Flowery Branch, Ga., teamed to win the boys' championship, while Ivana Corley, 18, from Albuquerque, and Kolie Allen, 17, from Lombard, Ill., took home the girls' crown.

Keshav Chopra and Gianna Pielet posted impressive results in 16s play, each sweeping the singles and doubles titles in that age division. ADVERTISEMENT Sixteen-year-old Chopra of Marietta, Ga., defeated Harsh Parikh of Tucson, Ariz., 6-4, 6-2, to claim the boys' singles title and also paired with Coy Simon, 16, from Charleston, S.C., to win in doubles.

In the Girls' 16s, 15-year-old Pielet of El Paso, Texas, beat Eryn Cayetano, 16, of Corona, Calif., 6-3, 6-3, to capture the singles championship and teamed with 16-year-old Carmen Corley of Albuquerque to capture the doubles title.

The 16s and 18s National Winter Championships were held at the USTA National Campus at Lake Nona in Orlando, Fla., while the 12s and 14s events took place at the Reffkin Tennis Center in Tucson, Ariz.

Current pros have had success at the USTA National Winter Championships during their junior careers, with past champions at the event including Jack Sock (12s, 2004; 16s, 2008), Christina McHale (12s, 2004), Donald Young (14s, 2002), Frances Tiafoe (14s, 2011) and Kayla Day (16s, 2013).
