Seniors Conclude summer Slam Series with Grass Courts
NEWPORT, RI- The New England Senior Tennis Foundation concluded its summer Senior Slams series with the Senior Grass Courts at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport from September 7-10. Seniors from New England and throughout the countriy traveled to Yale for the Hard Courts in June as well as the Clay Courts in July and August in Concord, MA.
Men and women competed in divisions ranging from 50s singles and doubles up to 85s singles and doubles. Players earned both New England and national tournament points for all three slams.

The Friendship Cup has a rich history and successful story of establishing international camaraderie and sisterhood both on and off the court. The tradition started in 1967 when Walter Foeger of Vermont was looking to establish competitive senior tennis play in alliance with the New England Lawn Tennis Association (NELTA), now USTA New England. He contacted George Barta of the Canadian senior division, and together, they created the Friendship Cup. In that year, players competed on three courts at the Jay Peak Resort in Vermont. Read More
