Facility Highlight: High Point Tennis Center
For more than four decades, High Point Tennis Center has been the beating heart of North Texas tennis. Following a multi-million dollar renovation by the City of Plano, High Point has transformed into one of the premier public tennis complexes in the region, blending top-tier amenities with a rich history of player development and community engagement.
Director Clint Sumrow leads a thriving facility that caters to everyone from first-time beginners to seasoned tournament players.
"We offer a lot of different programs here, from classes with kids that are four or five years old who have never played before, to a massive junior development program," Sumrow said. "We've developed a lot of college players through here, while also balancing public reservations, pass holders, in-house leagues, group lessons, and private lessons."
The multi-million dollar city renovation brought major visual and operational upgrades to High Point. The investment added a state of the art clubhouse featuring a scenic viewing deck, updated landscaping, and a dedicated center court that serves as a focal point for high-stakes competition.
Today, the facility features the largest pro shop in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, fully stocked with top-tier racquets, footwear, paddles, and apparel. For players needing equipment maintenance, High Point offers professional racquet stringing anchored by master stringer Justin Garcia—who brings US Open and Australian Open tour experience to every frame, stringing nearly 3,000 racquets annually.
Upstairs, the facility houses the Grand Slam Room, a versatile multi-purpose space used for hosting tournament operations, birthday parties, and charity events.

Competitive Hub & Championship Host
With 21 outdoor courts, High Point is uniquely positioned to host massive local, sectional, and regional events. In a single spring season alone, the facility fielded over 90 local USTA League teams along with multiple competitors from other Dallas-area tennis groups.
High Point is also the main host site for several prestigious events, including the Texas Slam, the largest and most prestigious junior tournament in the state, which hosts nearly 700 players from across Texas. Additionally, the facility regularly welcomes USTA Texas Sectionals, Player Development Camps, and the Men's Donoff Cup, while serving as the primary site for the DTA Cotton Bowl.
Working hand-in-hand with USTA Texas and the Dallas Tennis Association, High Point serves as an educational hub as well, hosting USTA tournament director and officiating workshops.
Recognized Excellence
The tennis community has taken notice of High Point’s dedication to quality and service. High Point was named the 2022 USTA Outstanding Facility of the Year, and the Texas Slam was voted the Best of Texas Tennis Favorite Junior Tennis Tournament in Texas.
"So just balancing out all the different opportunities for people to play here," Sumrow said. "We're fortunate enough to have this beautiful facility."
